School Expansion programme
Chingombe 1 Secondary school was officially opened on 1 January 1984 with a staff complement of 3 teachers and 64 students. Since they have grown and now boast 380+ leaners and 15 teachers.
The school is located in Natural Region 5 which is always prone to drought and is characterised by sandy infertile soils.
Its catchment area compromises of farmers whose income falls far below the poverty datum line, hence they can hardly afford to pay school fees and fund the schools developmental projects.
Chingombe 1 Secondary school aims to grow and meet the needs of this dynamic world by producing students who are employable, self reliant and relevant in this computer era but lacks resources . The school aims to produce learners who are literate, but we can not fully achieve these goals because most of the leaners are orphaned hence cannot afford to pay their school fees and end up being school dropouts. Those who manage to sit for their Ordinary Level will find it hard to proceed to Advanced Level because the neighbouring schools are boarding schools which are too expensive for their guardians to afford.
Tanaka ETL is working with Chingombe I Secondary School to develop the existing facilities by building 2 new blocks.
We would like to implement more subjects of higher qualifications so that we can offer form 5 and 6, equivalent to A levels. This will allow a more accessible route for those students in the rural area who have ambitions of reaching higher education. We aim to complete the transition into a A level offering secondary school by the year 2022.
Education happens within the context of a larger community. Our approach extends beyond the school to help ensure students have the necessary support to do their best learning.
